The Chargers and edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu are still working on getting a new deal done.
General manager Joe Hortiz appeared on the Chargers Weekly Podcast and revealed the two sides are eager to get a deal done.
“I just told him we’ll keep working on this, and you keep doing you," Hortiz said. "When we get to a spot where you feel good about it, we’ll get it done.”
Tuipulotu started training camp holding in. Being present at practice but doing individual drills on the side.
Eventually, he started participating with the team and even appeared in a preseason game.
Throughout all that and even as Week 1 approaches, Tuipulotu is seeking a lucrative contract extension from the Chargers. Prior to Hortiz's comments on the podcast, he and the front office
have been in talks with Tuipulotu's representation since the spring, but the two sides have yet to reach a deal.
The two sides have yet to reach a deal for the 24-year-old as he came off his best season yet. In 2025, the former USC Trojan is coming off his first Pro Bowl season, where he recorded 49 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, 13 sacks and three passes defended.
Tuipulotu is in line for an even better 2026 season. He's established himself as one of the premier pass rushers in the game, and arguably the best on the team despite Khalil Mack still being on the roster.
It’s a big season for the Chargers, and Tuipulotu’s play could go a long way in determining how successful Los Angeles is in 2026.
