The Chargers have a ton to look forward to as they enter what should be an exciting and exhilarating 2026 season.
There will be a ton of eyes on the Bolts after an offseason overhaul. There is much to look forward to, including the play of veteran edge rusher Khalil Mack. Mack is set to enter his 13th season in the league and his fifth in Los Angeles.
He’s certainly closer to the end of his career than the beginning, yet he continues to find new ways to reinvent himself.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and revealed Mack as a surprise name he expects to make an impact this season.
"I think the biggest one is Khalil Mack," Harbaugh said of Mack in regard to the biggest surprise heading into the season.
"He's 35 years old, all
performance metrics, the tape, but also the strength and power, the speed and agility, the flexibility, mobility, all at their peak. They're all PR's (personal records) in his performance."
The 62-year-old head coach didn't stop there. Harbaugh added that Mack plays like he's 22 years old.
"He plays like he's 22. He looks like he's 22."
The nine-time Pro Bowler was in his final season at Buffalo when he was 22 years old. Nonetheless, it appears that Mack will return to his All-Pro, Pro Bowl level in 2026 after a down year in 2025.
Mack was held to 12 games last season, recording 32 tackles (the lowest of his career playing in double-digit games), six tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hits and 5.5 sacks. Mack's stint on the injured reserve due to a left elbow dislocation did him no favors for his production.
However, health appears to be on Mack's side heading into the 2026 season, and Harbaugh sounds confident it could be his biggest season yet.
Mack has yet to experience a playoff win and hopes the 2026 season is when he finally gets a taste of that postseason success and then some.
