The Chargers will be without offensive tackle Rashawn Slater for a few games as the team confirmed he suffered a high-ankle sprain, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport said that the injury generally takes 4-6 weeks to recover from.
Slater suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Slater was seen in a walking boot on his right foot and using crutches.
Los Angeles was without its tackle for all of last season. Slater suffered a season-ending torn patellar tendon in his left knee last training camp.
With Slater sidelined, the Chargers could move Joe Alt from right tackle to left tackle and insert rookie Travis Burke at right tackle. Burke replaced Alt after he suffered a neck injury near the end of the first half against
Seattle.
The Chargers' offensive line ranked 30th in the NFL by Pro Football Focus in 2025, partly because they lacked Slater or Alt, but the unit cycled through 29 different offensive line combinations—the third-most in the NFL—and finished only five games with its original starting five. That unit has struggled severely due to a combination of underperforming players, injuries, and heavy regression in pass protection. The Chargers entered the season without their newly signed center Tyler Biadasz. He suffered a season-ending torn ACL during training camp. The interior line is still a work in progress.
