The Chargers have traded undrafted rookie cornerback Avery Smith to the Seahawks. NFL insider Tom Pelissero shared the news via X.
In exchange, the Chargers acquired a 2027 sixth-round pick.
Smith was an undrafted rookie out of Toledo, where he played four seasons of collegiate ball. After going undrafted in 2026, the Chargers signed him, and he impressed early on.
The 22-year-old was stellar from the start of camp and on. He made a name for himself by consistently breaking up passes and making things tough on the Chargers' offense. However, it appears there was simply no room for him on the Bolts' 53-man roster, and they instead flipped him for a small profit.
On the Seahawks side of things, this is another move to add depth to their secondary.
In the past few weeks, the Seahawks have signed defensive backs Trevon Diggs and Terrion Arnold.
It's unclear what type of role Smith will play for the Seahawks; however, he can play at the nickel spot and could get a chance to shine with the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Chargers will see Smith during their Week 4 matchup in the Pacific Northwest.
