The Chargers have traded defensive tackle TeRah Edwards to the Panthers right before the roster cutdown deadline, as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport reports that Los Angeles is getting a 2028 sixth-round pick in return.
Edwards, an undrafted free agent out of Illinois in 2025, spent his rookie year developing on the Chargers' practice squad. Entering his second season, the 6-foot-2, 305-pound nose tackle put together an eyebrow-raising summer tape, routinely disrupted opposing backfields. Edwards wrapped up the preseason against the Rams by logging four tackles and two pressures.
Despite his high-level production, Edwards faced an impossible numbers game in Los Angeles. The Chargers' front office invested heavy draft capital and
cap space into an interior defensive line room already anchored by Teair Tart, Dalvin Tomlinson, Jamaree Caldwell, Justin Eboigbe, and Nick Barrett.
Knowing they would likely lose Edwards on the waiver wire if they cut him, the Chargers capitalized on his soaring stock and flipped him for asset value before the deadline buzzer.
