Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is heading into his third year at the helm.
It's been quite the journey in the first two seasons; nonetheless, Harbaugh has undoubtedly proven to be among the top head coaches in the league.
With the 2026 season on the horizon, Pro Football Focus ranked the ten best coaches in the league, and Harbaugh narrowly made the list. PFF's Bradley Locker ranked Harbaugh as the 10th-best coach in his top-ten list.
"Harbaugh has been a professional football coach for six seasons, and he’s never finished below 8-8 in any of them. Indeed, those five winning campaigns have all seen at least 11 victories, including reaching that mark in each of his first two years with the Chargers," Locker wrote.

Sean Payton had a high ranking heading into the season. Reid earned the No. 2 spot, and Payton earned the No. 8 spot.
Harbaugh has guided the Chargers to consecutive playoff appearances and a 22-12 record in his first two seasons in Los Angeles. Now, the next step is obvious: finally winning a playoff game.
The Chargers have yet to collect a playoff win since the 2018 season. Since that moment, the Chargers have played in only three playoff games, all of which have ended in the wild-card round.
Los Angeles has built a roster capable of making a deep playoff run, and Mike McDaniel's arrival could be the difference-maker that finally gets the Chargers over the hump.
Harbaugh's job appears to be safe, but if they fail to collect a playoff win this season, that could change drastically.
