The Chargers' Week 5 opponent, the Broncos, are making a significant change ahead of the game.
Head coach Sean Payton will have a bigger role in calling the offense. Denver will be taking a more collaborative approach on that front.
ESPN's Adam Schefter shared the news via X.
Denver's new offensive coordinator, Davis Webb, called the plays.
Payton served as the Broncos' offensive play caller forhelm, but he handed his first three seasons at the the reins to Webb before the 2026 season.
Payton led the Broncos to a stellar offense, finishing 10th in scoring offense and 10th in total offense in 2024.
This season, the Broncos' offense has gotten off to a slow start.
Denver ranks near the bottom in total points (74) and points per game (18.5, ranking 27th
in the NFL).
The Broncos are also averaging 279.8 total offensive yards per game, 16.8 first downs per game, and a 39.6% third-down conversion rate.
Similar to the Chargers, the Denver offense has sputtered out of the gate.
Still, the Chargers' offense has shown little life through the first four games, while the Broncos have shown some signs of life.
Overall, both of these offenses are nowhere near where many thought they'd be at this point in the season.
The Chargers defense will have its hands full with Payton being more involved. However, Chris O'Leary's group has turned things around and will look to continue its stellar play, hoping the offense contributes this time.
