The Chargers may be winless entering Week 9, but they may be trending in the right direction health-wise.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said tight end David Njoku will likely open his 21-day practice window this week as he nears a return from injured reserve.
Njoku suffered a fibula injury back in Week 2 against the Raiders. The tight end has missed the last five games with the injury. Harbaugh also noted that guard Kayode Awosika should start working in practice. Awosika has also missed the last five games with a fibula injury.
Cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Rodney Shelley, both dealing with hamstring injuries, are expected to continue ramping up. Jackson and Shelley last played against the Seahawks in Week 4.
The only real negative in Harbaugh's
updates was that wide receiver Brenen Thompson likely won't practice after his recent setback. Thompson is dealing with a quad/hamstring injury.
Cornerback Deane Leonard is still in the concussion protocol.
The Chargers hope one of these players will suit up for their Week 9 contest against the Texans.
