Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh lent a helping hand to his brother John, head coach of the New York Giants.
Jim told the media on Wednesday that John called and that he recommended quarterback J.J. McCarthy before the Giants traded for him.
"John [Harbaugh] called me and asked me. I said, 'John, I love you. I love JJ," Jim Harbaugh said.
The Giants desperately needed a quarterback after losing Jaxson Dart to a season-ending knee injury. The Vikings found a suitor in New York and traded their former first-round pick.
In exchange, the Vikings received a 2027 fifth-round pick.
McCarthy will now head to the Big Apple after two-plus underwhelming seasons in Minnesota and after being linked to the Chargers this past offseason.
The Chargers could have been
in the mix for McCarthy, especially given Jim's relationship with the quarterback.
McCarthy played his best football under Harbaugh during their time together at Michigan. The 23-year-old was at his sharpest with Harbaugh at the helm, leading the Wolverines to efficient wins, high completion rates, and a national championship in their final season in Ann Arbor.
The 23-year-old quarterback has seen nothing but success with Jim; now he'll try to replicate it with John.
In his career thus far, McCarthy holds a 6-4 record in 10 starts, throwing for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a completion percentage of 57.6.
