The Chargers waived linebacker Junior Colson. ESPN's Adam Schefter shared the news via X.
Colson was among those who were on the roster bubble for the upcoming 53-man roster deadline. He was facing an uphill battle to make the roster, and while he played well, it simply wasn't enough. Colson could land on the Chargers' practice squad if he clears waivers.
Fellow linebacker Marlowe Wax will likely beat out Colson for the fifth and final linebacker spot.
The Chargers drafted Colson with the 69th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old showed promise in his rookie season, where he recorded 29 tackles and one quarterback hit in 11 games.
However, since his rookie campaign, it's been tough sledding for Colson. Injuries
have marred his NFL career thus far. While Colson played in 11 games his rookie season, he suffered setbacks, including an appendectomy/undisclosed minor issues.
Last offseason, Colson suffered a left shoulder injury that placed him on the season-ending IR. He missed the entire 2025 season.
Colson signed a four-year, $6 million contract with the Chargers as part of his rookie deal.
