The Chargers released their unofficial depth chart ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Cardinals, and their newest signing, Charlie Kolar, is listed as the team's TE1.
Kolar is listed as the team's TE1 ahead of veteran David Njoku and second-year Oronde Gadsden.
Gadsden is listed as the TE2, while Njoku is the TE3.
Kolar leads the group; however, nothing is set in stone as the season progresses. It will be interesting to see how Mike McDaniel utilizes his tight ends, especially this group, as they possess a handful of different skill sets.
McDaniel uses his tight ends as versatile pieces in heavy personnel groupings. 12 personnel is more McDaniel's style, while also calling a high volume of play-action passes and zone runs out of multiple
tight end sets.
As for Kolar, he is arguably the best blocker out of the bunch, which means that he will get significant playing time.
Kolar, 27, signed a three-year, $24.3 million contract with the Chargers in March 2026. The deal made him the highest-paid blocking tight end in the NFL.
All signs point to Kolar playing a vital role in the Bolts' offense.
