The Chargers' playoff chances are fading by the week.
Before the season started, many expected the Chargers to be a sure playoff lock. However, after four games, they now look more likely to land a top-10 pick than a playoff spot.
Where do the Chargers' playoff odds land heading into Week 5? According to FOX Sports, the Chargers' odds of missing the playoffs are at -1200.
Los Angeles is tied with the Buccaneers and Jets. Only three teams have higher odds: the Titans (-25000), the Cardinals (-25000 and the Dolphins (-50000).
Before Week 1, the Chargers opened with -185 odds to make the playoffs, roughly a 64.9% implied probability. Los Angeles opened at +140 odds to miss the postseason.
Those odds are long gone, with the Chargers sitting at 0-4 and
in the midst of their daunting schedule. Their offense continues to struggle badly; on top of that, they are depleted and injury-riddled on the offensive line and have a ton of turnovers in their first four games.
If it's not one thing, it's another for the Chargers, who can't seem to get out of their own way.
The offense, along with Justin Herbert, is ranked among the worst units to start the season. Los Angeles ranks 21st in total offense, 29th in points per game, and 24th in passing yards per game.
Mike McDaniel's offense has done itself no favors and is a big reason why the Chargers are in the position they're in.
The playoffs appear to be a pipe dream for the Chargers this season.
