Former Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is expected to sign with the Commanders.

Ekeler is expected to join one of his former teams, pending a physical.
The 31-year-old tore his Achilles in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season while in Washington. Last week, the former Charger worked out with the Panthers.
Ekeler was a standout running back for the Chargers from the late 2010s to the early 2020s. With the Bolts, he led the NFL in scrimmage touchdowns in 2021 (20) and 2022 (18).
Ekeler spent his first seven seasons with the Chargers. He played the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Commanders.
In seven seasons in Los Angeles, Ekeler recorded 4,355 rushing yards on 990 attempts and averaged 4.4 yards per attempt.
He was also a threat through the air.
Ekeler caught 440 passes for 3,884 yards, averaging 8.8 yards per catch.
The 31-year-old entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017. The Chargers signed him, and he served as the ultimate all-purpose back.
