For the first time in his coaching career, Jim Harbaugh is staring at a 0-2 start.
Harbaugh addressed the media afterward amid lingering celebratory Raiders chants from the locker room. When asked about the Chargers' offense that struggled for the second consecutive week, he said, “We’ll look at the tape. We’ll go back to work. That’s all I know how to do.”
He struck a firm tone about the team’s mindset. “I’m not deterred,” Harbaugh said. “No one in that locker room is deterred.” He added of his players: “This is a team that has the competitiveness, they’ve got the fight. We’ve got the guys. We’ve got the coaches. We’ve got to find our way.”
The game was defined by mistakes: six fumbles, three turnovers, eight penalties, including four flags on
tackle Joe Alt, and an inability to sustain drives. Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 15 of 27 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Running back Omarion Hampton scored but also lost a key fourth-quarter fumble. Tight end David Njoku suffered a knee injury after a bobbled pass that was intercepted.
On the other side, Kirk Cousins threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns. The Raiders’ defense capitalized on the turnovers, and a late safety on a holding call against Alt in the end zone sealed the final margin.
Herbert echoed the need for urgency: “There’s no time for us to be patient with how we’re playing. It’s not good enough, so we have to be better.”
The Chargers entered the season with high expectations after consecutive 11-6 seasons under Harbaugh. Instead, they are 0-2 and face a difficult seven-game stretch, starting with a road game against the Bills.
