Former Chargers running back Austin Ekeler revealed he'd be open to joining the Raiders this season.
In a recent interview with Las Vegas sports reporter Madyson Marie, the undrafted running back said that possibly joining the Raiders feels right.
"Now being in my hometown [Las Vegas], would be a dream for my family," Ekeler said.
"Is the situation right? We'll have to see. How is [Ashton] Jeanty feeling? Do they need another guy?
Ekeler went on to pitch himself to Las Vegas and other teams while remaining a free agent.
"Because if I'm on a team, I'm going to be your third-down back. I want to be your two-minute guy. I want to be protecting your quarterback in passing situations. That's where I'm best. I can still run the ball, I can return kicks.
If that presents itself, sure. If not, it's all good."
Ekeler is 31 years old and spent the 2025 season with the Commanders. Prior to joining Washington in 2024, he played for the Chargers for his first seven seasons of his career.
His seven seasons in Los Angeles were incredible. Ekeler went from an undrafted back to one of the more dynamic running backs in the league for a stretch earlier in the decade.
As a Charger, Ekeler recorded 990 rushing attempts for 4,355 yards, 39 rushing touchdowns, and averaged 4.4 yards per carry. Ekeler was just as good as a passing back, recording 440 receptions for 3,884 yards, 30 touchdowns through the air, and averaging 8.8 yards per reception.
Ekeler left the Chargers as a free agent after the 2023 season. He signed a two-year deal with the Commanders; however, he was not nearly as explosive or dynamic as he had been in Los Angeles.
The Raiders have not indicated that they have expressed interest in Ekeler. On top of that, they appear confident in the running backs they have in Ashton Jeanty and rookie Mike Washington Jr.
