Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is set to enter his third season in the league. After an underwhelming 2025 season, McConkey is expected to get back to a Pro Bowl level as the top wideout on the team.
The 24-year-old is now among the leaders of the team, being named team captain for the first time in his career.
McConkey spoke to the media on Wednesday about being named team captain. He revealed what it means to be named team captain.
"I just try to put my best foot forward, be there for my teammates, be the best teammate I can be," McConkey said. "Obviously I was super excited about it, and thankful for it.
"You never know, with your teammates voting on it, what they think of you but I was really grateful for it," McConkey added.
McConkey has
certainly made his mark as a whole in his first two seasons in the league. The wideout has recorded 148 receptions for 1,938 yards and 13 touchdowns. Although his numbers were down in 2025 compared to his 2024 rookie campaign, his 2026 season is set to be a special one with Keenan Allen no longer on the team.
Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is set to put McConkey in the best position possible to succeed. In McDaniel's offense, McConkey will use his yards-after-catch potential while also utilizing heavy pre-snap motion and creating easy completions to jump-start the team's explosive-play game.
The expectations for the offense are sky-high, and McConkey will play a vital role in helping McDaniel’s scheme reach its full potential.
