The Chargers are off to a horrendous start to the season. Los Angeles sits with a 0-2 record, and while a start like that is never ideal, it's how they are looking.
Los Angeles looks nothing like the unit many pundits and experts predicted. They are flat and playing sloppy on all three phases, and their schedule ahead does them no favors.
The Chargers are a bad football team right now; that's no secret, which is why Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports put the team's panic meter at an 8 out of 10.
Among the eight teams to start the season 0-2, the Chargers rank second on Pereles' list, behind only the Commanders.
"For the offseason hype to go to in-season dread so quickly is so disappointing and, frankly, so Chargers," Pereles wrote.
"Justin Herbert has
shown high-level stuff, and Mike McDaniel has shown high-level stuff. But the stylistic meld between the two just isn't happening, the procedural issues are all over the place, there are clear issues with the interior offensive line, Omarion Hampton keeps fumbling, and the entire offense falls apart without Ladd McConkey . Other than that ... it's going great!"
The Chargers have a lot of issues, especially on offense. Through two games, the offense has mustered only 28 points (14 in each contest).
Mike McDaniel's offense, a unit that was expected to set the NFL world on fire, has looked mundane, boring and flat-out confusing.
Los Angeles has a ton of problems on that side of the ball, and to make matters worse, Chris O'Leary looks like a major downgrade from Jesse Minter.
The Chargers' schedule is another issue, as from Weeks 3 to 10 they face elite teams on both sides of the ball.
If the Chargers continue to play as they did in the first two games, this team will likely be picking in the top five of the 2027 NFL Draft.
