The Chargers' 2026 season has been a nightmare.
Los Angeles has had a horrendous start to the season, and it didn't get any better after their Week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos. The Chargers are now 0-5 for the first time since 2003, and things only seem to be getting worse.
If that's the case moving forward, it begs the question of whether they should part ways with Khalil Mack. Mack is at the forefront of the trade block, with things likely heading in that direction, with less than a month until the deadline.
NFL insider Adam Schefter named Mack as a trade candidate and explained why they could move on from him this season.
"The teams that you look at are the teams that aren't winning that can shed salaries and pick up draft picks," Schefter said.
"The Chargers, 0-5, the name that jumps out there is Khalil Mack; he's on the last year of his contract," Schefter continued.
"They love Khalil Mack, but why are you holding on to Khalil Mack if all of a sudden you're 1-7 or whatever their record is and there is another team offering you a pick? So to me, that's a player I'd be watching."
The 2026 season looks like a lost one for the Bolts.
The Chargers are still searching for their first win and currently hold the No. 2 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Given how the season has unfolded, it wouldn't be surprising if Los Angeles begins looking ahead to next year.
Mack has yet to make a deep playoff run in his illustrious career. If the Chargers' season continues to unravel, they could give him a chance to pursue that goal with another team.
This season could be Mack's final of his career.
