Are the Chargers going to blow up the team after a disastrous 0-5 start?
Many fans and pundits expect them to go that route after their most recent loss to the Broncos.
The 2026 season has been a nightmare for the Bolts, and they may make multiple trades, as it looks like they're going nowhere. If the Chargers decide to be sellers, we will likely see them make moves on or before the Nov. 10 deadline.
However, what does history tell us about how Joe Hortiz handles the deadline? Hortiz became general manager in 2024 and hasn't been afraid to pull the trigger before the deadline.
"Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz has shown a willingness to turn over parts of the roster where he sees fit in his two-plus seasons at the helm.
"In 2024, the Bolts did
not make a deal at the deadline but made a pair of deals — including one for Elijah Molden — before the start of that season."
In 2025, the Chargers added outside linebacker Odafe Oweh from the Baltimore Ravens.
However, this deadline will be a lot different. Instead of adding to the team, the Chargers could move off some of their premier players, like Khalil Mack.
Other potential trade candidates include Quentin Johnston, Derwin James, and Denzel Perryman, to name a few. The Chargers entered the season hoping to add a piece or two to help them get over the hump. However, at 0-5 with little sign of improvement, Los Angeles may have to shift its focus toward selling while it still can.
Another loss this week, and the Chargers may seriously start to look towards the 2027 season.
Hortiz's next moves will reveal whether the Chargers plan to buy, sell, or stand pat before the deadline.
