Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is among four players on the team who made ESPN's ranking predicting the top 100 players for the upcoming season.
The other three Chargers are tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater, and safety Derwin James Jr.
Slater was ranked 95th, followed by Alt at No. 86, James at No. 51, and Herbert at No. 32. Herbert climbed three spots up from the 2025 ranking.
"Herbert set career highs in interceptions and quarterback hits, he gets a new offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel, whose stated goal is to make life easier for his quarterback. With McDaniel, one of the league's most respected offensive minds, it would be no surprise if Herbert has a career-year," ESPN's Kris Rhim wrote.
The Chargers are expected to be one of the
best teams in the league in 2026, especially if things go their way. Los Angeles has one of the best rosters in the league and is expected to take a huge leap this Fall.
Herbert is entering Year 7 of his career and is right in the middle of his prime. He still has elite arm talent and the prototypical size that makes him the type of quarterback any team would want.
As for the two tackles, Alt and Slater are the hearts of the Chargers' offense. Los Angeles played a good chunk of their games without them, and Herbert ended up on the ground a career-high 54 times.
If those two can be healthy throughout the season, the Chargers' offense will be in a great spot by the time the playoffs roll around.
James is arguably the best safety in the league. The 30-year-old is the ultimate hybrid, able to line up anywhere on defense and wreak havoc on opposing offenses and quarterbacks.
All four Chargers will play a pivotal role in the team's success in 2026.
