Putting together their best rushing performance of the season, the Los Angeles Rams revealed just how efficient the duo of Kyren Williams and Blake Corum can be. They combined for 192 rushing yards, each scoring a touchdown in the team's 35-21 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
On Monday, head coach Sean McVay spoke about the tandem and what they mean to the overall game plan. Their work, paired with the blocking efficiency of the offensive line and tight ends, kept the Rams' offense ahead of the chains, allowing Matthew Stafford to pick apart the opposition with a balanced approach.
“I think those guys did a great job," said McVay. "They were both awesome. I thought they leveled off. I think it was a great reflection of them deserving the well-earned
credit but also the guys that were part of the blocking surface. When you're able to do that, you're not in a bunch of bad spots on second down and on third down and a lot of things can come off of that. I thought that was the first game that was reflected. We were able to really do some of the things that I've been in alignment with when we've been able to operate at a pretty decent clip offensively. Both Blake and Kyren did a great job."
McVay was happy to get Corum and Williams as many carries as they did. Williams carried it 16 times for 99 yards and Corum had 17 rushes for 93 yards, each breaking off a 17-yard run.
"I think to be able to get them both involved and both allow them to get the amount of touches that they did and really for us to get the amount of rushes off while still being able to be efficient, I thought the linemen set their pads," McVay continued. "I thought the tight ends and receivers that were a part of the blocking surface did a really nice job. I was really pleased with that. Both those guys did a great job. I love the way Kyren responded too. It was a great job by them attacking at it. We had a good run on that specific play but then he came back and he responded like he always does.”
Just like last season, it appears that when the Rams utilize their run game, especially with multiple-tight end formations, the whole offense is at its best. Stafford was excellent, with three touchdowns of his own, while Puka Nacua continued to excel.
The team's 35-point output was their highest of the season.
