The Los Angeles Rams' rivals have already been active ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline, with the Seattle Seahawks acquiring Quenton Nelson and the San Francisco 49ers striking a deal to bring back DeForest Buckner. Though the rest of the NFC West is making moves, don't expect the same from the Rams.
They view their trade deadline acquisitions as the eventual returns of Myles Garrett, Terrance Ferguson and Davante Adams, who are all on injured reserve.
Sean McVay was asked on Wednesday whether the Rams have had trade discussions after seeing the 49ers and Seahawks make their deals, but he suggested Los Angeles won't be active before the deadline. If those key players were ruled out for the season, it might be a different story.
“No, no, that's
not something – based on our situation, the good thing for us is, what you look at is hopefully some of those trades will be guys getting back from injury that haven't played for us," McVay said. "That's the way that we look at it. Like I've told you in years past, you always think about it, but with the amount of guys that have not been available that are key and focal points for really both sides of the football, we look at those guys hopefully being able to return within a month. That's where that value lies for us. Maybe it'd be a different conversation if we're talking about guys that are on IR and done for the whole season. The good thing is a lot of the guys that are big, huge parts that we're missing, we do expect to get back at some point, just not exactly sure when that is.”
The Rams have been waiting for Garrett to return from IR, as he's been eligible since Week 6. However, he didn't play the last two games, and he's already been ruled out for this coming week against the Los Angeles Chargers. McVay said they're on a "week-to-week basis" with him, admitting "it's frustrating" to not have any updates.
Ferguson is also eligible to return but isn't ready to come back yet, and Adams is expected to miss at least six weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Rams could use a wide receiver to pair with Puka Nacua in the meantime, but other than that, their roster is in good shape. The biggest concern is their special teams unit, which has been the worst in the NFL thus far.
