Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson found himself in hot water once again Monday night when he punched Buffalo Bills defender Bradley Chubb on the field after the game. The NFL reviewed the matter and determined Jackson’s actions warranted a two-game suspension – which is more than even Brian Branch got last season when he punched JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Unless Jackson’s appeal is successful, this will be his second suspension in the last three seasons. And he could also face further punishment from the league for his offseason arrest.
Sean McVay is always looking for high-character players to fill out his roster, which is why he wants to see Jackson improve in that area. He said Jackson needs to “consistently do a better job” of representing
what the Rams are about.
“It is very important to represent the things that we want to be about. He has to consistently do a better job,” McVay said Tuesday.
McVay acknowledged that he wants to find out more details about what led to the altercation, including what Chubb said to Jackson to set him off, but regardless of what occurred, he wants his left tackle to make better decisions.
As for what he told Jackson, he’s keeping that in-house.
“Have to make better decisions than that,” he said. “I was not made aware of that until this morning. I spoke with him. We'll keep that in-house.”
With Jackson out for the next two games, the Rams will turn to David Quessenberry at left tackle. Fortunately, the games he’ll miss are against the Cardinals and Raiders, but in the NFL, it’s any given Sunday. And at 2-3, the Rams can’t afford to keep losing.
