Before the start of the season, “60 Minutes” visited the Los Angeles Rams for a feature that aired on Sunday night. Their interview with Sean McVay didn’t exactly go as planned.
That’s because the Rams coach was visibly frustrated by the practice his team just had. The interview was shortly after the team’s second practice of training camp, and McVay was not happy with how things went.
“Oh, I'm a lot tormented,” McVay said.
“What's tormenting you right now?” Jon Wertheim asked.
“The practice that we just had. That's why I'm in such a great mood,” he said sarcastically, barely cracking a smirk.
McVay admitted he wasn’t focused on the interview because his mind was still on practice. He even said he felt "rude" in the interview.
“It's why, honestly,
I'm not really here right now,” he said. “I feel rude right now with you. You deserve more attention than what I'm capable of giving right now and I feel bad about that.”
McVay is a football junkie, always thinking about new ways to innovate and make his team better. It's why the Rams have been perennial contenders under his guidance since 2017, quickly becoming one of the best coaches in the NFL.
McVay said in the interview that he used to tell himself that he wouldn't be happy until he won a Super Bowl, which he's embarrassed to look back on.
"And the lies I told myself were, 'I won't be happy until we win one.' Or, 'I win one,' you know? And it was a lot more selfish. And, you know, you're embarrassed to kinda look back on how you got to where you did," he said.
Over the course of his coaching career, McVay has grown, and he's now in a great place at the helm of the Super Bowl favorites.
