The Los Angeles Rams had no trouble moving the ball or putting up points last season, leading the NFL in scoring and total yards. Unfortunately, that momentum didn’t carry over into 2026 because through one week, the Rams are the lowest-scoring team in the league.
In their loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams only scored seven points, losing 27-7 in Melbourne. In what was a record-tying Week 1 for scoring with 791 total points across the league, the Rams put up the fewest points of any team.
Four other teams only scored 10 points, but the Rams were the only ones not to reach double digits in the opening week of the season. The Patriots, Titans, Broncos and Browns all tied for the second-fewest points with 10.
The Rams’ seven points are the
fewest they’ve ever scored in Week 1 under Sean McVay. Their previous low was in 2022 when they scored just 10 against the Bills. The last time they scored fewer than 10 points was in 2016, a 28-0 loss to the 49ers. It was only the fifth time the Rams failed to hit double digits in Week 1 since 1994.
It’s not that they were totally anemic on offense. They had 290 total yards, which ranked 19th in the opening week. The Vikings, for comparison, scored 39 points on just 239 yards of total offense. The Rams just had an interception in 49ers territory, a fumble at their own 39 and turned it over on downs when Matthew Stafford was stuffed on fourth-and-goal from the 1.
Week 1 is the most misleading week of the season, and surely the Rams won’t finish near the bottom of the league in scoring this season. But for at least one week, they’re alone in the basement.
