Harrison Mevis has had a pretty long leash throughout his early season struggles as the Los Angeles Rams' kicker, in part because he was so accurate last season and performed well throughout the summer. But he may have run out of the coaching staff's trust.
In Monday night's loss to the Buffalo Bills, Mevis missed a 50-yarder wide left in the first quarter. In overtime, he had a chance to win it with a 48-yard attempt, but his kick was blocked. After looking at the replay, it's likely he was going to miss wide left again anyway, had the Bills not blocked it.
Sean McVay, after the game, said that he and the Rams will "evaluate everything" with the kicking game, which could be an indication that a change is coming at kicker.

Blocked field goals aren't entirely the kicker's fault, but launch angle and timing do have something to do with it. When it comes to Mevis' first miss, though, that's completely on him.
He supposedly has a powerful leg, which he showed in college and the UFL, but he has yet to show the accuracy to go with it on longer kicks. His career-long is only 52 yards, which is nothing in today's NFL.
Special teams cost the Rams a win on Monday night, so it's easy to understand why McVay might be looking to make a change before things get even worse. Sadly, this has a very similar feel to last year's group when Joshua Karty and the kicking unit failed time and time again.
