Before the start of the season, the Los Angeles Rams had the best odds to win the NFC West and the Super Bowl. After their 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams took a hit in both markets.
Prior to Week 1, the Rams were -105 to win the West, which gave them better than a 50% chance. But with their loss to the 49ers, they didn’t just fall from their perch as the favorites. They don’t even have the second-best odds to win the division anymore.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Rams are now +205 to win the West, behind the newly favored 49ers (+160) and the defending champion Seattle Seahawks (+175). The Cardinals, who started 1-0, are still a long shot at +4500.
Every divisional game counts extra, which is likely why DraftKings made
the 49ers the favorites over the Seahawks despite them having the same 1-0 record. The 49ers already have a divisional win, whereas the Seahawks beat an AFC team in the Patriots last week.
The 49ers may have the best odds to win the division, but it’s still the Rams who are the Super Bowl favorites. Their odds slipped from +500 before Week 1 to +650 now, slightly ahead of the Ravens (+900) and Bills (+950). The Seahawks and 49ers are third and fourth, respectively, with odds of +1100 and +1400.
Though winning the division is certainly a big advantage come playoff time, giving you at least one home game, it’s not the deciding factor in winning it all. The Rams could still very well win the Super Bowl as a wild-card team, especially if they’re the No. 5 seed like they were last year when they faced an 8-9 Panthers team in the wild-card round.
