There was always a possibility that the Los Angeles Rams would come out a little bit sluggish against the San Francisco 49ers after making a last-minute flight to Australia. However, few expected them to look as bad as they did in their 27-7 loss at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The offense was flat and the defense couldn't get a stop, but Davante Adams isn't close to hitting the panic button. He's confident that the Rams will bounce back in the coming weeks, assuring everyone that Los Angeles won't look like that every week.
He acknowledged that he's heard the panic set in and said "everybody's freaking out," but there's only a calm presence in the Rams' locker room.
"We're going off of not a great sample size this year. Everybody's freaking out,
which I understand. We didn't put together the greatest showing out there. But you're a fool if you think that that's what it's going to look like every single week," he said confidently Thursday. "There were a few different variables that we shouldn't have to deal with moving forward. One of them being the first week, which is part of it. And then obviously traveling and like I said, we're not making an excuse, but that is a potential reason why we maybe weren't as energetic. But at the end of the day, the execution is the execution. Once you get a man in front of you, I'm not falling asleep as he's standing there in front of me so you still have to go and block them and go run good routes and get open. We’ve got our minds right to do the right thing. The way we practice, the way we get each other ready, it gives us the best shot at being ready on Sunday or Monday.”
Adams only caught three passes for 26 yards in the loss to the 49ers, a disappointing showing from the Rams receiver. Granted, Matthew Stafford threw for just 155 yards and had his second-worst passer rating (61.2) since being traded to the Rams in 2021, so it wasn't a very good day for anyone.
The Giants defense is no slouch, especially when the offense plays keep-away and limits possessions for the opponent, but the Rams should have much more success this week at SoFi Stadium.
