A lot of players have come and gone since Aaron Donald retired after the 2023 season, bidding farewell to some veterans and bringing in a wealth of new talent. Among the newcomers is Trent McDuffie, the All-Pro cornerback Los Angeles acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.
Donald has only been teammates with McDuffie for a few weeks but he’s been blown away by the cornerback’s skill set. Donald called McDuffie “something special” during his press conference on Thursday, saying that while he doesn’t usually watch the defensive backs, he couldn't help but watch McDuffie play.
“That guy's good," Donald said. "I told the guy I train with, I said, ‘Yeah, he's a special talent.’ He made a lot of big plays. I usually don't watch the DBs,
but he caught my eye. He's something special and we have to continue to play like that week in and week out. If we do that, we have a good chance to win with guys playing like that.”
McDuffie is only two games into his Rams tenure but it couldn't have gotten off to a better start. Through two weeks, he's allowed only one catch on eight targets with one interception and four total passes defensed. He's allowed a 0.0 passer rating in coverage and looks like the best cornerback in football – as Davante Adams called him.
The Rams have to be thrilled with the early returns on their trade for McDuffie, who's already a team captain and looks poised for another All-Pro selection this season.
