With Davante Adams on the shelf, the Los Angeles Rams didn't turn to another wide receiver in order to fill that void. They once again shifted more toward 13 personnel with their trio of tight ends, Colby Parkinson, Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen. They combined for 82 yards on 11 receptions against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, but their biggest impact came in the run game.
NFL Network's Brian Baldinger highlighted the Rams' tight end play in his "Baldy's Breakdown" this week, heaping praise on the job that Parkinson, Higbee and Allen all did around the line of scrimmage. He said they all "dominated this game."
"I have not seen three tight ends dominate the line of scrimmage like this in a long, long time," he said. "... They all contributed,
they all block, they all catch. Like, it's unreal. It's the best the offense looked all year."
.@RamsNFL @Raiders the Rams went to their TE OFFENSE; and it's the best the offense has looked all year...There is nothing that Allen; Higbee, and Parkinson couldn't do. 13 personnel is here to stay #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/ehXrzevV0W

According to ESPN Research, the Rams had three tight ends on the field for 34 plays on Sunday, their highest mark of the season. Sean McVay leaned heavily into 13 personnel and it couldn't have worked better.
It sparked the run game, and when Matthew Stafford did drop back to pass, he was finding open receivers; he completed 23 of 29 passes on the day for 195 yards and three touchdowns.
The Rams shifted toward 13 personnel last season when their receiving corps was banged up, almost out of necessity, but it's now become a staple of the offense thanks to the versatility and effectiveness of their tight ends.
Once Terrance Ferguson comes back, this group will become even more dangerous.
