What is the story about?

This time of year, the Los Angeles Rams are looking for depth more so than key contributors. Considering they hold their starters out of preseason games, they need backups to play those snaps.

After waiving cornerback Drey Norwood with an injury designation, the Rams replaced him with another corner. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the Rams signed Zech McPhearson.

McPhearson, 28, was drafted in the fourth round by the Eagles in 2021 but hasn’t played a game since 2022. He played 16 games (one start) as a rookie in 2021 and 17 games in 2022 but hasn’t seen the field since.

He was signed by the Jaguars in 2024 after being waived by the Eagles and spent the year on the practice squad, but he was cut in August 2025. After spending the 2025 season

without a team, he now lands with the Rams.

McPhearson likely won’t make the 53-man roster, but he’ll get a chance to audition for the practice squad and other teams this preseason when the Rams rest their starters.
