Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead has seen plenty of players walk away from football. Few, he says, have come back to it the way Aaron Donald did this week.
Donald, 35, officially ended his retirement Sunday, agreeing to a one-year, $20 million contract with incentives that could push the deal to $30 million. It's been more than two and a half years since he last played a snap, having stepped away in March 2024 after a decorated 10-season run that included a Super Bowl LVI title, three Defensive Player of the Year awards and eight first-team All-Pro selections.
Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, Snead described seeing "joy" return to Donald as he took the podium with the Rams once more.
"It was almost like he was a couple years younger,"
Snead said, recalling the look on Donald's face as one of pure relief. "Just that look of like, 'Okay, I'm back. I'm a part of a team. I'm ready to go sit at my locker in the locker room.'"

Snead framed it through the lens of anyone who's built a life around one calling. "There's that cliff of 'that's over, that part of my life basically dies,'" he said — but getting a chance to do it again let something else come through. "You could see that perspective ooze from his body language," Snead added.
The Rams have a roster built for a title run now with Donald in tow following blockbuster trades for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. Now Donald and Garrett will anchor a Rams defensive front that, on paper, ranks among the most fearsome in the league — with Snead convinced the joy Donald is carrying back into the building is as real as the production once was.
