Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay continues to inspire the game of football and those who coach it at every level. Every year at training camp, his sidelines are filled with coaches sent from around the country, observing his teaching practices and overall operation.
McVay even had former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott in attendance this year
, while his football ideology is visible for all online to see.Recently, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire was interviewed by The Broadway Shuffle Podcast, where he was asked about his influences. McGuire, who helped the Red Raiders achieve their best season in program history last season by winning 12 games and the Big 12 title, stated that he uses McVay to reinforce his own lessons, as he has
created his culture in a similar approach to the Rams head coach.
"Emulate, or as far as take things from – when I tell this, how we're creating our culture, I always try to have some little short video from a coach or an NFL player or something like that, and so, you know, Sean McVay's done a lot of stuff. If you watch any of the social media, he's got some really, really good stuff out there," said McGuire. "So I'll use little clips, because they hear it from me. I want them to hear it from other people, other than just me, to help me get that message apart, so I use those guys."

McGuire has built his collegiate program in a similar manner to McVay, prioritizing the player over the scheme, while using his resources to get the sport's best players. As the Rams have done in the draft, the Red Raiders have continued to develop homegrown talent, also using their vast NIL resources to acquire talent that was once out of reach for the program.
Considering McVay uses his top draft picks to acquire the NFL's best, supplementing them with homegrown players, it makes sense why McGuire incorporates McVay's teachings. They often emulate his own to build something that will last longer than the players that currently make up the team.
