One of the biggest surprises for the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason was outside linebacker Wesley Bailey. Bailey, an undrafted rookie from Louisville, impressed early in training camp, building on that momentum to make the team's final roster.
With Myles Garrett on injured reserve, Bailey is one of the several players called upon to replace the production from the Defensive Player of the Year. He made a statement in Monday's 28-6 win over the Giants by recording his first career sack, which was also the Rams' first sack of the 2026 season.
Last week, McVay talked about what makes Bailey special and how he earned his spot on the 53-man roster.
“I mentioned it to the team when we talked to the 53," said McVay. "He earned the spot based on what
he played like in practice and in the preseason games. I thought really the second preseason game where he really showed what he's about against the Saints. I thought he shined really brightly. I thought he was getting his feet wet against the Chiefs. A big, physical athlete, physical and stout at the point of attack, and then obviously can impact the game as a rusher as well. It was cool for him.”
Bailey played well against the Kansas City Chiefs, but excelled against the New Orleans Saints, recording five tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.
Bailey didn't register a defensive snap in Week 1 but he did play on special teams against the 49ers. After drawing comparisons to Leonard Floyd in preseason, he came to life in the home opener, securing his first NFL sack in the win over New York.
He's looking like a potential star at a loaded position for Los Angeles.
