Monday night's game between Matthew Stafford's Rams and Josh Allen's Bills lived up to the hype. It was a showdown between the last two MVPs in prime time, and they delivered a game to remember.
Allen and the Bills stole a win from the Rams thanks to Los Angeles' ineptitude on special teams, winning in overtime, 37-34. Stafford did everything he could to win the game, but Allen's heroics made the difference down the stretch.
In an on-field interview with ESPN after the game, Allen showed a ton of respect toward Stafford with some exceptionally high praise for the Rams quarterback.
“I’ve got an unbelievable amount of respect for Matthew," Allen said. "The way he plays the game, the way he’s always played it. He’s as tough as they come. If he’s not
the greatest thrower of the football of all time, I don’t know who is. He spins it, he’s a competitor, he’s a guy that every quarterback should strive to be like.”
His effusive praise for Stafford continued in his interview with Scott Van Pelt.
"He's the MVP of last season for a reason," Allen said. "He's one of the greatest, if not the greatest thrower of the football of all time. He's an awesome dude. He's extremely humble. He's as tough as they come. I said this earlier: He's what every quarterback should aspire to be. I feel like I've learned a lot from him, watching him over the years. So I've started developing a little bit of a relationship with him over the last couple seasons. I'm just a huge fan of his."
The two shared a handshake on the field before overtime began, and it's clear Allen has nothing but love for the elder Stafford. In an era with so many talented young quarterbacks, Stafford is someone his peers look up to as one of the last remaining pocket passers.
Stafford has complimented Allen frequently over the years, and the Bills quarterback couldn't say enough good things about the Rams captain after Monday's game.
