The Los Angeles Rams re-tooled their secondary this offseason, and despite a few injuries that have shaken up their rotation, the unit has remained strong through their first four games of the season.
However, the defensive back duo of Trent McDuffie and Quentin Lake has ushered in an exciting new era for the team because of their versatility, coverage skills, and ability to apply pressure as blitzes. That's why Pro Football Focus named both as first-team All-Pro selections for the first quarter of the 2026 season.
McDuffie joins Denzel Ward and Amik Robertson at cornerback, with McDuffie's inside-out skill set providing defensive coordinator Chris Shula the ability to eliminate opposing pass catchers schematically. Lake is listed next to Jevon
Holland at the safety position.
Lake has had to rotate out of his slot corner role due to an injury to Kam Kinchens and McDuffie's usage on the inside. The linchpin of the defense, he's done so with ease.
Considering both are talented, cerebral players who are able to make things happen on the fly, the more they get a chance to play with each other, and with a fully healthy unit, the more effective they'll become.
Lake, the team's leading tackler, and McDuffie, the team's best corner, are tied for the team's lead in pass deflections at seven apiece, with both already securing an interception this season.
