Buffalo Bills edge rusher Bradley Chubb says he knows exactly what he said to Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson before Jackson punched him, and he insists it had nothing to do with Jackson’s mother.
“I’ll tell you exactly what I said,” Chubb told reporters Wednesday, via ESPN. “I’ve heard I was talking about his mom. That’s not true at all. I said, ‘We’re gonna see y’all’s ass again. And when we see you again, all that chipping ain’t gonna save you. That tight end and guard is not going to save you.’ He said, ‘What’d you say?’ I said, ‘That chip’s not gonna save you. The guard’s not gonna save you.’ And then boom.”
Chubb acknowledged to ESPN that he started the exchange. Video shows Jackson was in the middle of a jersey swap with Bills
defensive tackle Deone Walker when Chubb got his attention after Buffalo’s overtime win on Monday Night Football.
Chubb said part of what set him off was a sense that the Rams were “front-running”—that they were trash-talking only once Los Angeles thought it had won the game. That changed after Bills defender Greg Rousseau blocked the Rams’ overtime field goal attempt, swinging the game back toward Buffalo before the Bills won on a late-second-quarter field goal.
Jackson punched Chubb in the head once the game was already over, knocking his hat off. Chubb had to be held back by teammates, which kept the situation from escalating. Chubb said he was proud he didn’t swing back, but conceded he shared the blame and said he and his teammates have plenty to learn. He added that he hasn’t heard from Jackson since the incident.

The NFL initially suspended Jackson two games on Tuesday, but hearing officer Derrick Brocks cut it to one after Jackson appealed. Jackson will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, and the Rams face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. It’s the second time in three seasons Jackson has been suspended. He sat out two games to start the 2024 season for a personal conduct violation.
The Rams and Bills wouldn't play again this year unless both meet in the Super Bowl.
