The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a boatload of injuries heading into the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams, but two of their biggest stars could be on track to play next Thursday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Wednesday that both George Kittle and Nick Bosa are traveling with the team to Australia today, at least giving them a chance to face the Rams in Week 1. Kittle is “trending in the right direction to play,” while Bosa is “ramping up with his knee.”
Kittle tore his Achilles and underwent surgery in January but he’s been steadily making progress and trending toward playing next week. Bosa, meanwhile, tore his ACL last September, so he’s nearly a year removed from that devastating injury.

The 49ers are heading to Australia almost a week earlier than the Rams, flying to Melbourne today and arriving on Friday after the long 16-hour flight. The Rams haven’t disclosed their exact travel plans, but they’re arriving much closer to game time, potentially even just one day before.
Kickoff is set for 8:35 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 10, as the Rams and 49ers get their seasons underway down under.
