The kicking carousel continues to spin for the Los Angeles Rams. On Thursday, the Rams announced they have signed Joshua Karty from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, giving them two kickers on the active roster; Brandon McManus is the other.
Additionally, the team reunited with cornerback David Long Jr., who Los Angeles drafted in the third round back in 2019. Long has been signed to the practice squad, taking the spot vacated by Karty’s promotion.
It’s surprising that the Rams signed Karty to the 53-man roster after elevating him for the first time last week. They could have used a temporary elevation on him twice more, but perhaps they want to reserve their practice squad promotions for players at another position.

Sean McVay said earlier this week that McManus is expected to remain the team’s primary kicker, having done nothing to lose the job in his first two games with the Rams. He made five PATs in his debut two weeks ago and then made a 30-yarder and three PATs last week against the Chargers.
It’s unclear if the Rams will continue to use both kickers – McManus on field goals and Karty on kickoffs – or if Karty will handle both duties.
Long had been on the Saints' injured reserve until he was waived with an injury settlement on Oct. 29, making him a free agent. He originally signed with the Saints back in August after being cut by the Giants.
