Myles Garrett was spotted on the Los Angeles Rams' sideline Monday night for the first time since landing on IR, typically spending games in a suite while recovering from knee surgery. He wore a black, teal and purple Jordan jacket while watching his team play the Buffalo Bills, while also rocking a Rams hat to go with it.
Apparently, his outfit was not in line with NFL standards. Jonathan Jones of The Athletic reported Saturday that the NFL typically would have fined a player for not wearing team-issued gear on the sideline, but opted to warn Garrett and the Rams instead.
The NFL did not fine the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, but I am told the Rams heard from the league office about it, and I would expect Garrett to blend in on the sideline
Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
I believe Garrett, who’s made more than $180 million on the field, gets to keep some of his money because of the deal recently struck between the NFL and NFL Players Association. Last week the two sides issued a joint statement saying the league would relax its fines on player celebrations and that when “conduct falls into a gray area, the league will contact the player and provide direction before imposing discipline.”
Garrett is a Jordan athlete, so it's not surprising that he'd wear a sweatsuit from the iconic brand. But when the Rams face the Cardinals on Sunday, we'll likely see Garrett in blue and yellow, so as not to stand out and face a potential fine from the league.
Or maybe he'll continue wearing what he wants without fear of any potential fine. After all, he's made more than $180 million in his career, as Jones points out.
