The Los Angeles Rams are set to play for the first time since September 10, and their first game at home since the 2025 regular-season finale, when they host the New York Giants on Monday night. Following their opener in Australia 11 days ago, one might think that the team is frustrated they've had to wait this long to suit back up after a loss.
That isn't the case. The Rams are embracing the opportunity to once again play in front of the entire country in prime time. While it's felt like an eternity, the chance to compete quells any annoyance.
“I think there's always excitement," said head coach Sean McVay on Saturday. "I don't take for granted how lucky I am to be able to do something that is truly a blessing. It's never a burden and I'm excited.
I think that's an appropriate word. Really, I'm excited just to get a chance to go compete again. It was a unique start to the season, but SoFi is a great atmosphere and environment. I love our fans, excited to hear them try to impact that game for us in a positive way.
"We've got a young team [that we're playing against] that's really confident, really well led by a head coach that I have tremendous respect for in John Harbaugh. There was a style of play that was on display Sunday night when they played the Cowboys in their opener. Our guys are excited. I'm certainly excited. I think when you talk about doing this for 10 years, grateful is the word that I would say.”
The Rams are anticipating a physical matchup, but the level of grandeur associated with the contest will have the team ready to go. Quarterback Matthew Stafford expressed that thought earlier this week.
“I love playing on Monday nights," said Stafford. "Obviously, the schedule part of it is a little bit unique and a little bit difficult. You cut into your next week. You obviously get that extra day on the front end but cut into your recovery for the next week. But Monday Night Football has always meant something in this league. I grew up watching it and it's fun to be on it.”
With an extended time off, if the Rams can get into rhythm early, perhaps this game could be the catalyst towards a winning streak, even as their schedule intensifies. After this contest, the Rams will play the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles on the road, before taking on the Buffalo Bills at home. All three teams made the playoffs last season.
