The wind was quickly taken out of the New York Giants' sails on Monday night when Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury on the game's opening drive. He was hit almost simultaneously by Josaiah Stewart and Byron Young as he uncorked a deep pass on third down, knocking him out of the game after just a handful of plays.
Dart never returned and was examined back in the locker room before returning to the sidelines, a gut punch to a Giants team that looked promising in Week 1.
After the game, Matthew Stafford found Dart on the field and shared some words of encouragement. In his postgame interview, Stafford was asked what he told Dart.
“I just said I was pulling for him," he said. "I don’t expect him to tell me what’s going on but I just wanted to let
him know that I was pulling for him. I want young guys in this league that play our position to play well. He’s doing a heck of a job. Hopefully he’s back sooner rather than later.”
Initial reports are that Dart suffered an MCL sprain, which would be good news for the Giants. But nonetheless, it's a brutal injury to a good young quarterback.
