Before the Los Angeles Rams made their blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett, there was another superstar edge rusher on their radar. They pursued a deal for Maxx Crosby in the spring, attempting to bring the Las Vegas Raiders defender aboard.
After his deal to the Baltimore Ravens fell through due to a failed physical, the Rams made the strongest push for Crosby, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. However, Crosby let the Rams and everyone else know that he didn’t want to be traded, shutting down any talks of being moved to Los Angeles or another team.
Sources told NFL Network that Los Angeles pursued Crosby shortly after his trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens fell through because of a failed physical.
Other teams were
interested, but the Rams, with their propensity to swing big, were the strongest club pushing for a deal, according to sources.
But before there could be anything official, Crosby let it be known to anyone interested that he did not want to be traded. He wanted to remain with the Raiders and let his own organization know as well.
Crosby is still a Raider and is seemingly happy about it, but the Rams clearly wanted to bring him to Los Angeles before striking their deal for Garrett. He would’ve been an outstanding addition to the defense, bringing his high-energy style of play and pass-rush skills to Chris Shula’s unit.
The Rams are still thrilled to have Garrett, despite his disappointing debut against the 49ers and lingering knee issue, but Crosby was their “initial wish,” Rapoport says.
