Puka Nacua gave the Los Angeles Rams a scare last Thursday when he left practice early due to a calf injury. He was unable to practice on Friday and was a true game-time decision against the Las Vegas Raiders.
He wound up playing and caught eight passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, but he’s not fully out of the woods yet with his injured calf. Nacua told reporters on Thursday that he’s still getting treatment and managing the injury, doing everything he can to suit up on Sundays.
“After a Thursday practice, I’ll get some supplemental work, but it's definitely something that, maintenance every day in the morning, moving some stuff in my insoles and stuff like that and working with everybody in the training room and ‘EQ’ [equipment staff] so I can
go out there and play as free and confident as I can,” he said.
Nacua still managed to play 85% of the offensive snaps against the Raiders and had a huge impact on the game, but he wasn’t doing his usual damage down the field or after the catch.
He’s averaging 10.8 yards per catch this season but averaged only 8.5 against the Raiders, so it shows that he maybe wasn’t as explosive as he usually is.
Nacua is still fully expected to suit up against the Chargers and play his usual share of snaps on Sunday. He hasn’t been on the injury report at all this week, which is an encouraging sign, so it’s not as if his calf is causing him to miss any portions of practice.
