The Los Angeles Rams could be on the verge of making a change at kicker. After missing a 50-yarder and having a 48-yard game-winning field goal blocked by the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, Harrison Mevis may not be the man for the job anymore.
Unfortunately for the Rams, their options at kicker aren't exactly great. They don't have anyone on the practice squad and good kickers typically don't remain free agents for long. But there's no question something has to be done because Mevis is now 5-for-9 on the year, including 3-for-7 from beyond 40 yards.
Here are five kickers the Rams could consider signing if they move on from the unreliable Mevis.
Tanner Brown, free agent
Brown was with the Rams from 2023 to 2024 after being a finalist for the Lou Groza Award in 2022 as the nation's
best kicker. He never got a chance with Los Angeles but has found success in the UFL. He was the UFL's Special Teams Player of the Year in 2026, making three field goals from 60-plus yards this past season.
Brown is a free agent after spending a few months this summer on the Saints' offseason roster.
Blake Grupe, Jets practice squad
Grupe struggled badly for the Saints last season, going 18-for-26 in his first 11 games before being cut. The Colts then signed him and he went a perfect 11-for-11 on field goals for them down the stretch.
Now on the Jets' practice squad, the Rams could consider giving him another shot. His best season was in 2024 with the Saints when he made 87% of his field goal attempts.
Kansei Matsuzawa, Raiders practice squad
Matsuzawa was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted rookie this year after an impressive career at Hawaii. He was voted a consensus All-American and Mel Kiper Jr. ranked him as the fifth-best kicker in the 2026 draft class. Unfortunately, he struggled in the preseason, going 0-for-1 on field goal attempts and 1-for-3 on PATs for the Raiders.
In his final season at Hawaii in 2025, he went 27-for-29 on field goals and 40-for-40 on PATs. He's still on the Raiders' practice squad so the Rams would need to sign him and put him on their 53-man roster.
Younghoe Koo, free agent
Koo was once the most accurate kicker in NFL history but his accuracy fell off a cliff in the last four years. He's made just 81.2% of his field goal attempts since 2022 after making 92.6% from 2019-2021. He's one of the most experienced and proven kickers available in free agency, but has he completely lost his confidence after the struggles he endured in recent years?
Jake Moody, free agent
The Rams know Moody well from his time with the 49ers. He's now a free agent after being released from the Ravens' practice squad, a fall from grace after being a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2023. Admittedly, he's been terrible in the NFL, making just 78% of his field goal attempts, but the talent is undeniably there after the impressive numbers he put up in college.
He was an All-American in 2021 and made 52 of his last 60 field goal attempts at Michigan in 2021 and 2022.
