The NFL continues to dominate for a reason. There's something for everyone, from the most die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fans down to the casual enthusiast who only recognizes every team's starting quarterback. Football is basically reality television with shoulder pads, except the writers don't get to decide how the story ends. Every week brings new characters, unexpected twists, revenge angles, breakthrough performances, and the occasional plot development that nobody saw coming.
More often than not, the stories surrounding the games are every bit as entertaining as the games themselves. The Eagles haven't ever won in Tennessee, while Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh was the only head coach to lead theNew York Jets to a victory over Philadelphia

That alone adds a little extra intrigue, but it barely scratches the surface of the storylines surrounding Sunday's game. There are some fascinating subplots in this one, with the following being among the most interesting that few are discussing.

Geno Smith and Cam Ward led the league in sacks allowed in 2025 (55). They met in Week 1. Smith remained upright while Ward was taken down three more times, making the Titans star the most-sacked QB in pro football since the start of last season.

As bad as it's been for Cam Ward, he's done something fairly well. He has taken care of the football. He hasn't dropped back and put the ball in harm's way. He hasn't thrown an interception since Week 14 of his rookie season, and that was his first pick since Week 8 of 2025.
That's one interception in his last ten starts. He has thrown 11 touchdowns over that same span. That alone tells you the Titans have something that they can work with in this young man.
A true 'weakness vs. weakness' matchup
It was only one week, but it's worth mentioning. The Eagles allowed 132 rushing yards vs. the Washington Commanders in Week 1. That ranked 23rd in the NFL after Week 1. The Titans ran for 68 yards. Some of that came from a deficit they passed to try to dig out of, but it's still 68 yards rushing. Only three teams produced a lower total.
That makes this a classic 'weakness vs. weakness' matchup. Something has to give.
Eagles fans may turn this into a glorified home game.
Eagles fans travel well. Millions of Birds fans also live in other cities. Philadelphia may be 0-3 in Nashville, but that isn't for lack of support.
New York Jets fans took over Nissan Stadium in Week 1 and were in full throat. Expect another sea of green in Week 2.
Final thought
The best NFL games aren't always the ones with the biggest stakes on the schedule. Sometimes the surrounding stories make a seemingly ordinary matchup far more interesting, and this one has plenty of material before the first snap.
Philadelphia is trying to accomplish something it hasn't done before in Nashville, but that's only one piece of the puzzle. By Sunday afternoon, new developments will add to the storyline, whether they involve a player responding to adversity, an old connection resurfacing, or someone completely unexpected stealing the spotlight. That's what makes the NFL so much fun: We know the matchup, but we never really know the script.
