The Philadelphia Eagles are running out of opportunities to turn their season around after falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Philadelphia dropped to 2-5, suffered its fifth straight loss, and fell further behind the New York Giants in the NFC East.
The Giants lead the division at 4-2-1, while Dallas improved to 3-4 with its win at Lincoln Financial Field.
Washington remains at 1-4-1.
The Eagles entered the season expecting to compete for another division championship, but injuries, offensive inconsistency, and a struggling defense have dramatically changed their outlook. Philadelphia's defeat was particularly costly because it came against a division opponent with the same 2-4 record. Dallas now owns an early head-to-head advantage
over the Eagles, with the teams scheduled to meet again on Thanksgiving.
The next two games will be critical.
Philadelphia travels to Washington on November 1 before hosting the Giants on November 8. Those matchups offer a chance to improve its division record and potentially narrow the gap with New York before the Week 10 bye.
However, the Eagles must improve significantly after allowing 416 yards and 38 points to Dallas. A fifth straight defeat has Philadelphia looking up at two teams in the standings, and the margin for error keeps shrinking. The Eagles still have 10 games remaining, but they can no longer afford to let winnable division games slip away.
