The Eagles have a chance to end a three-game losing streak against a rested Carolina offense that has given Vic Fangio plenty to consider. The Panthers are 2-2 following their Week 5 bye. In their most recent game, Bryce Young threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns in a 32-26 victory over Detroit, with Tetairoa McMillan catching 14 passes for 192 yards and both scores.
Fangio’s assessment Tuesday offered a clear warning against treating Carolina as an easy recovery game.
“He really good processor, makes quick decisions, knows where to go with the ball,” Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator said. “Very, very impressed by him.”
Young’s four-game production supports that assessment. He has thrown for 1,268 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions,
averaging 7.8 yards per attempt. Carolina has generated 1,623 total yards, averaging 405.8 per game.
McMillan poses the most immediate coverage challenge, but Philadelphia can't focus solely on him. Chuba Hubbard has rushed for 306 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Jalen Coker has 18 receptions for 222 yards and two scores, but his availability must be confirmed during the week of the game.
Fangio emphasized that Carolina’s running and passing games complement each other on early downs. That balance complicates decisions about providing extra help against McMillan.
Philadelphia’s personnel uncertainty adds another layer. Marcus Epps has been unavailable, Michael Carter II left the Jacksonville game early, and Kenny Moore II stepped into safety work despite limited preparation. Fangio acknowledged that the depth is challenged. The pass rush could also be short-handed. Fangio expressed significant doubt about Jalyx Hunt playing and remained uncertain about Jonathan Greenard.
Young has taken 10 sacks in four games, making timely pressure a key part of Philadelphia’s chance to disrupt the offense. But pressure must work with disciplined coverage and tackling.
The Eagles need a strong response after three losses. Carolina’s offensive balance and extra preparation time make this a demanding place to find it.
