Jonathan Greenardis receiving meaningful practice work as he returns from a pectoral injury, but the Philadelphia Eagles do not expect their veteran edge rusher to immediately handle a complete workload.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Greenard is still working his way back after missing training camp. The Eagles will evaluate his response throughout the week before determining his availability and potential role against Washington. Greenard was listed as limited on Philadelphia’s first official injury report of the regular season.
Even if Greenard is cleared for Sunday, his snap count could be managed as he rebuilds conditioning and becomes comfortable within Fangio’s defense. Meaningful practice repetitions represent progress, but Fangio acknowledged
that reaching a full workload will take time. Philadelphia has enough depth to remain patient. Jalyx Hunt and Arnold Ebiketie are listed as the starting edge defenders, while Nolan Smith Jr. provides another experienced option in the rotation. The Eagles can use Greenard in selected passing situations without asking him to carry an extensive role immediately.

Greenard was acquired to strengthen a pass rush that needed another proven finisher. His ability to set the edge, pressure quarterbacks, and play multiple downs should eventually make him an important part of the defense.
The immediate priority is getting him back without a setback. Philadelphia’s season will not be defined by how many snaps Greenard plays in Week 1. His workload should increase as his health and conditioning improve, giving Fangio another pass-rushing option during the most important portion of the schedule.
