Bijan Robinson has replaced Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley atop the NFL’s running back market.
The Atlanta Falcons agreed to a three-year extension with Robinson carrying a maximum value of $75 million, according to multiple reports. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the agreement includes $51 million in guaranteed money and has a base value averaging $22.25 million per season. Incentives could raise the average to $25 million. Both figures move Robinson ahead of Barkley, whose two-year, $41.2 million contract averages $20.6 million annually. Barkley received $36 million in guaranteed salary under his agreement with Philadelphia.

The extension represents another significant step forward for a position that endured a depressed market only a few years ago. Robinson, Barkley, Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry have helped demonstrate the value a dynamic running back can provide to a modern offense as a runner, receiver and matchup problem.

Robinson’s deal does not change Barkley’s contract or his standing within the Eagles. Philadelphia secured its featured back through the 2028 season, with a void year in 2029, before another elite player pushed the market higher. Barkley remains second among running backs with a $20.6 million annual average, ahead of McCaffrey’s $19 million.
The timing could eventually benefit Barkley if he continues producing at an elite level. Robinson’s extension establishes a new negotiating benchmark for the position, creating a larger gap between the top of the market and the contracts signed by other established backs. Atlanta’s investment also reflects Robinson’s importance to its offense. Rather than allowing his rookie contract to move closer to its expiration, the Falcons secured one of the NFL’s most versatile offensive players while he remains in his prime.
Barkley briefly held the financial crown. Robinson has taken it with a contract that resets the market through annual value, total guarantees and maximum earning potential.
